I've upgraded from Edgy to Feisty and subsequently lost both sound and
wifi.

Device Manager says that I've got an Intel 82801CA-ICH3

It works perfectly for the first user but for other users the volume
control icon is denied. Double clicking the icon produces this message:

"The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control.
This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins
installed or that you don't have a sound card configured."

>From an "otheruser" terminal, if I do
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ su - firstuser
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
then sound works fine.

>From otheruser terminal, I get this error message:
        [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav
    [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ALSA lib confmisc.c:670:(snd_func_card_driver)
cannot find card '0'

Sounds like permissions or a missing .rc file of some sort, but I can't
figure it out. Any ideas?

For the record, I've fixed the wifi by adding

blacklist hostap_pci
blacklist prism2_pci

to /etc/modules.d/blacklist
I have no idea why that works, but it does.

regards,
David
