Hello Sluggers,
I have googled for something in the Open Source world that provides
a "black box" for multimedia storage and retrieval. The idea is that
the black box hides all the gory details of storing (sometimes large)
multimedia content such as images, audio and video, indexing same
and then provides a uniform and easy way to retrieve the index
and the content itself.
The purpose of such would be a complete self-contained software
unit that can be plugged into applications that wish to manage
multimedia content without worrying about how to do it. The
black box itself may use a file system, SAN or a database to
manage its storage.
The black box would be network based, and provide an application
service perhaps through SOAP or similar to web and other apps
for multimedia content management. I am not looking for a CMS,
rather something akin to an intelligent and easy to use mass
storage system, but one a little more intelligent and focussed
than a file system.
Any feedback most appreciated.
cheers
