Hi David,
I am a photography student at ANU in Canberra. My husband absolutely refuses to
buy any microsoft products. He is a DBA and web administrator and works with
their products everyday and sees all the problems. He didn't want these
problems at home. I can understand that we don't have virus issues etc. But
this leaves the problem of my colour workflow being up the creek. At the moment
I have had success with it because my camera has SRGB and Photoshop colour
settings. This is because my camera and screen is set up SRGB and my 1 hour
photolab is also SRGB in it's printing. How ever, I have printed with
professional printers before and you can get a lot better colour gamut with
Photoshop colour settings.

I have had one bit of success though.... I was looking for a RAW camera file
converter. I didn't think the one in Digikam is very good. It made everything
too dark to get a good print from. However, I found a open source program
called Bibble is is a raw converter with good colour correction options
included. It produces a jpeg which you can print from. This is without telling
the lab it needs your corrections profile to be used when printing.

Yes, I am a perfectionist when it comes to getting my work printed. As my work
is my advertising etc.

That is my situation with Linux and photography.

Can you tell me a little about your experience with Linux and photography?

Exactly the same position I'm in.

Let's keep the conversation going please. There MUST be a need for this
sort of thing. If SLUG don't want to do a mailing list I'm quite happy to
do one.

I'm sick of "shock horror" reaction I get when I say that I refuse to use
Photoshop, and I want to demostrate that I can do without it, or prove
that I can't do without it - one or the other!
