Your problem is 'something is wrong somewhere'

I've setup dozens of mythtv systems without having a problem. All that means
is I always do the right thing, never straying to the wrong way.

What I'd do is this:
1) setup frontend backend and db on a machine. Does it work ?
I've never apt-get'd myth only built it, but it surely does work.

2) transfer the DB to your DB server. Either start from scratch or mysqldump.
   Get that working.

3) Transfer frontend to another machine.

Now you can localize your problem area. By the way apt-get build_dep mythtv
works like a dream.
