I looked at getting a new laptop a little while back. Other options you
could consider are PCMCIA, Firewire and SD (Flash Card/Memory Stick)
ports and DVD Burning and even biometric readers!
But instead, I have just upgraded my 3 year old Targa Traveller from
Knoppix 3.2 to Knoppix 5.1 and am pretty happy with that - the noisy fan
finally turns off. I don't do any development....but I have a USB
Digital TV Dongle that doesn't have a driver yet...so, you may be better
off going for an older device.
