Hi Marghanita,

first of all: WhatWG is a collection of Web developers and Browser
developers (mostly Firefox, Opera and some guys from Apple), who are
developing not only the specs of HTML5, but also software to
demonstrate the ideas.

It is very much a technical effort, so if we have any input from SLUG
people as to what is wrong with HTML4 and needs to be fixed in HTML5,
but isn't yet in the current HTML5-spec, then that should totally be
sent to the whatwg mailing list.

As for the question about Annodex: imagine if all video on the Web had
time-aligned annotations that provide information about sections of
audio/video and you could directly address any offset inside that file
with a URL. Google could e.g. return to you links to offsets in long
talks that relate to your query. You can e.g. send a URL to your
friends to a specific time point in a video. And you could e.g. create
a new video from published video at different locations on the web
simply by creating a list of URLs to sections in these videos. Also,
you could publish video as an integral part of your Web page with
total control in javascript over the video. Well: that's some of the
things that Annodex enables. And I hope it explains some of the power
it provides to the Web.

Shane's recent talk at SLUG is actually much more comprehensive and
would be great to review if you are interested in Annodex.

Cheers,
Silvia.
