Thanks for your advice and assistance.

I have installed Abiword 2.4.6 and 2.5.2 from source using

./configure --with-fribidi --prefix=/home/...

and can open either from terminal, and 2.4.6 from also from the menu
(possibly because I did not initially specify a location to install
so it used defaults which may be overwritten during the next Abiword
apt-upgrade).

I'll continue with a pinned Etch and Sid system because it gives me
access to more recent pkgs such as Scribes text editor and 'epdfview'.

I'm having trouble install plugins, docs, and extras in 2.5.2 .. getting

"No package 'abiword-2.5' found" .. a different name from
/home/adam/Abiword-2.5.2 .. perhaps I should rename it 'abiword-2.5'

In any case, I have two compiled backups allowing me to work while
the debian version resolves itself.

Cheers,

Adam Bogacki,
