Hello all, Here is an initial plan for our Software Freedom Day festivities.
After much deliberation, we have decided that it is better to delay our activities by one day (to Sunday 16 September) and base ourselves around the computer fair at the University of New South Wales. http://www.computerfairs.com.au/index.php?option=com_eventlist&Itemid=38&func=shlocevents&locatid=11 The Computer Fairs people have been kind enough to sponsor us with two tables, each being just over two metres in length. We will have access to electricity. I will see if I can organise Internet access, but don't count on it at this stage. More details will be forthcoming, but we shall commence at about 8am (it is a requirement that we start setting up before 9am). We will likely also be using other rooms at the University for assorted activities. We might have one booked for a hackfest, and I would like to see one where we can help people to get their hardware working with FOSS. What we need: * People! We need helpers at the stand, people to talk to visitors, people to hand out fliers and CDs around the place, and so on. We would like to build relationships with other vendors at the fair so that they may become more FOSS-friendly, and we might even be able to help people get their newly-purchased hardware working with Linux. * Stuff to hand out. We've arranging fliers and CDs, but if you can think of anything else, let us know. If you can arrange for the production/delivery of those items, even better. * Demonstration hardware. We've only got two tables of display space, but it would be nice if we could try to demonstrate FOSS working in a variety of situations: e.g. desktops, laptops, older PCs, PPC Macs, embedded devices and even on Windows and Mac OS. * Any help/suggestions on how to make this SFD the best ever! Remember, the Sydney activities for Software Freedom Day take place on SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER, not on the Saturday. Thanks everyone! Sridhar -- Need to fork out $$$ for the next software upgrade?
