Next questions is how do I get this to automount?
Not sure what desktop environment your using so it may depend. I'm using
fluxbox and in my startup script I start gnome-volume-manager to handle
all the automounting of devices (even though I'm not using a full gnome
desktop).
Sorry, it is gnome.

The other Ken gave me this command and this seems to help:
sudo modprobe -r ehci_hcd
Hot Plugging works well for on my Knoppix 5.1/KDE Laptop with a USB drive.
However, I use a USB/ptp protocol camera and the laptop wants to auto-mount it,
as a disk when I plug it in, which I think won't work for me, but might be what
you are after. I think, what I need to do is get gtkam to load when the camera
is detected.
I am using KDE but I don't think this is relevant as there are references to the
hotplug module in the boot up.
