Some time ago, I asked SLUG for help in expanding a photograph to act as background for the desktop. Several people responded (for which many thanks), suggesting different methods.
It occurred to me that it might be a useful exercise to attempt *all* methods and post the results on SLUG, probably as attachments. The photograph is of a tree in a hazy rainforest (ie, a tough subject). It's a jpeg file and is not available in a larger resolution. The methods thus far are:--- 1. pnmscale 2 pipe jpeg in and jpeg out. 2. greycstoration program (at www.greyc.ensicaen.fr/~dtschump/greycstoration) 3. set the image to stretch in the wallpaper setting. 4. import it to Gimp and try each of the resampling/enlarging methods. 5. convert the photograph to vector format, "then anything goes". 6. xsetroot 7. jpegtopnm x.jpeg | pnmscale 1.6 | pnmto xmp, followed by pnmsmooth 8. as fpr 7. but use mogrify 9. as for 7. but use convert from the Imagemagick suite, eg., -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
