Hi Ashley,

I should preface this with a disclaimer that I used to work for the parent
company of one of these registrars, but as far as I can without bias

Thoughts on Intaserve:
$27.95 RETAIL for 2 years .com.au is pretty darn cheap. You also get basic
DNS hosting thrown in free if you need it.
Systems in place for automated domain management, used to be odd glitches
sometimes - of the order of perhaps frustrating for domain management, many
customers never had problems though. I think they did a major system
overhaul late last year of problem areas, so with any luck that paid off.
Would probably be worth joining the reseller program if you go with them and
manage names for other people or have any decent number of domain names.
Phone and email/ticket service but with the phone service bear in mind it's
a very small margin with small-medium rego only customers so with simple
things you can manage online yourself you're generally encouraged to go
online first - I expect if you're a SLUG member that's your preference
anyway. :)

TPP are another cheap .au registrar, but I can't comment on them much.
Price-wise I'm sure you can do better at IntaServe.

DomainCentral are also moderately cheap but no phone contact available and I
have heard of issues.

I gather by a WHOIS lookup you're probably after a comparison to
PlanetDomain - so I think we've now covered off most of the lower priced AU
registrars anyway
.

You can find an independent summary of retail prices and associated gross
margins for AU registrars at http://www.whatsinaname.com.au/
