I've been running Kubuntu Hardy for a while now an apart from an early
initial problem when some update caused my 10gb "/" partition to fill up
( could never find out why or how), there has only been one unsolved
problem since a re-install of the Final release:-
THe problem relates to Hardy designating hds as /sdxx instead of /hdxx
as in earlier distros.
I initially installed Kubuntu Hardy on a system with 3 IDE HDs and an
IDE DVD-RW attached. All drives were designated /sdxx.
When I later attached my 2 SATA hds (data only - 1 x NTFS and 1 x Ext3)
the system would no longer boot, as after finding "/" on the Primary
Master IDE drive ( set to "boot" in the PCs BIOS), it failed to find
"/home" on the 2nd partition of the same drive.
Attaching the SATA drives had changed all IDE drive designations back to
/hdxx from /sdxx, and the SATA drives were now /sdxx and the system
placed them BEFORE the IDE drives so was looking for /home on the first
SATA drive.
Booting from Kubuntu Hardy Final LiveCD verified these changed drive
designations, whereas if I remove the SATA drives, the IDE drives revert
to /sdxx from the LiveCD.
So far haven't found out why this happens, nor have I changed Hardy's
boot setup, I just removed the SATA drives and put them in a different
PC ( not running Hardy).
As I often swap drives around this is a real pain.
Posting to the Ubuntu Community Forum elicited no reply.
