I was about to recommend a very good book - but noticed that someone has already recommended it =). Google gave me a copy on completing my GSoC project, I'd left it lying around for about a year and finally decided to read it - it's an excellent book and probably a great start, but being part of a masters, it's probably not detailed enough, I don't know.
