Any attempt to run sane as a user segfaults. Running from CLI as sudo gives me a message warning of impending doom if I run as root, but doesn't segfault. It dosn't work either, although that could be because the scanner attached isn't recognised (Samsung SCX 4725 with it's own proprietary sane drivers!).

Syslog says:

Nov 6 14:38:38 david rmmod: ERROR: Removing 'lp': Operation not permitted
Nov 6 14:38:38 david rmmod: ERROR: Module parport_pc is in use
Nov 6 14:38:38 david rmmod: ERROR: Removing 'ppdev': Operation not permitted
Nov 6 14:38:38 david rmmod: ERROR: Module parport is in use by

Nov 6 14:38:38 david kernel: [955351.507934] xsane[15935] general protection eip:b6d85bf5 esp:bff3ad30 error:0

Google references to the problem seem to all be years old, so probably out of
date.

This happens on both Hardy/Desktop and Intrepid/Asus M51K Laptop

Any thoughts appreciated.

David.
