== Call for Speakers ==

Our General session for this month's meeting will be a round-up of the
linux.conf.au conference in Hobart last week. We welcome everyone who
attended to share their experiences with the group. This can include
what you learnt, whom you met, what the conference was like, and so
on. If you gave a talk or found a talk to be particularly interesting,
you are welcome to give a summary. Please try to notify us first if
you wish to give a mini-talk, to allow for planning.

We are also looking for speakers for our next meetings on Friday 27
February and beyond. Our meetings are held on the last Friday of every
month.

Please let the Committee ([email protected]) know if you
can help out.

** General Talk **
linux.conf.au 2009 round-up

An open discussion, rather than a single talk. SLUG members who
attended linux.conf.au in Hobart are welcome to share their
experiences with the group. This can include what they learnt, whom
they met, what the conference was like, and so on. If you gave a talk
or found a talk to be particularly interesting, you are welcome to
give a summary. Please try to notify us first if you wish to give a
mini-talk, to allow for planning.

** In-Depth Talk **
Robin Gareus: 'State of the Art: linuxAV 2009'

A walk though Audio/Video/Film production on GNU/Linux.
After a ~15-20min presentation and overview of available FLOSS tools,
including a quick from "scratch to master" example, the talk can go in
depth on one or two topics the audience is most interested in:

    * recent FOMS developments.
    * System setup: codecs/ffmpeg, JACK, real-time, openCV, dvgrab..
    * Linux Audio tools for composition, sound-design and mastering.
    * Live performance and installation interaction development: OSC,
JACK-MIDI and friends.

** SLUGlets **
General discussion and Q&A about Linux, free software and open source.

= Meeting Schedule =

See here[2] for an explanation of the segments.

  * 18.15: Open Doors
  * 18.30: Announcements, News, Introductions
  * 18.45: General Talk
  * 19.30: Intermission

        o SLUGlets
  * 20.30: Dinner

Dinner is at Golden Harbour Restaurant, in Chinatown. We will be having
the $24 Banquet[3], but we will be collecting $25 per head for ease of
accounting and to cover a tip. We will be taking numbers during the
break to confirm the reservation size. If you have any particular
dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian), or if you would prefer to order
separately, let us know beforehand. Dinner is a great way to socialise
and learn in a relaxed atmosphere :)

We hope to see you there!
