Ah.  I should, perhaps, have paid more attention earlier in the thread
so I would know the OP used slackware, not just responded to this one
message.

What, than performing exactly the same set of steps with Debian?  No,
not really because, you know, identical.

I think you are mistaking detailed instructions for complex
instructions, for what it is worth.  The Debian documented process is
really the same steps as your set ... except they cover "how do I"
questions in more detail.

For example, "how do I make sure /usr/src/linux points to my kernel
source"?  (Plus, that isn't actually sufficient: you *also* need the
kernel configured appropriately, which you don't mention. ;)

No, it isn't.  Had I noticed that I wouldn't have bothered to comment;
I assumed the previous poster had already done the "are you actually
running Debian" sanity check.  Lazy me, I guess.
