Thank you for your response.

I have tried to df by mounting the partitions all in turn.  All are
using quite little except / which is up to 87%, although I have 8
partitions.  /temp is a separate partition, and has little on it.
/tmpwith / mounted has nothing.

/ has /vimlux and initrd all with links broken.  Is this where they
should be?? (My complete ignorance)  If they are gone (why oh why?),
can I reinstall just the kernel, without losing even /etc.

Other wise I just have to try to fix keyboard in Debian 64 :-(

I am very grateful for the response, as I am both old and
(computerwise ) isolated.
