That's what I thought until this happened. 

I didn't copy the code from a windows file; I hand wrote it from
scratch in gedit.... and gedit is putting a bom into the document.

When I upload the html file (which has php scripts in it) I see the bom
on the web page. A standard html file without php scripts doesn't show
the bom. I've even opened up the file with Okteta to see if I can
delete it that way but Okteta doesn't show it. It's quite
bizarre. But I really need to find a way to remove it because it's
there on the web page.
