I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10. Since then I've had trouble reaching some web sites. I think I saws questions about this a few weeks before my upgrade but I lost the messages.

As I recall, opinion in the previous thread thought it was trouble finding the address in the first place. I think setting had to be changed for DNS (or whatever). The performance to date supports this notion. Whatever client I use, Firefox, Thunderbird, Galeon, it seems to spend a *long* time trying to find the site in the first place. Once it has found it the response is very fast. It is a bit faster if I have visited the site once before (but not much)

I understand I should change a setting in one of files saved in /etc. Can any one advise what this should be?

set your DNS to your ISP's dns servers was the consensus
you probably want to change that in your modem
