...there is a teensy tiny little bit of confusion about the place regarding
SATA connections, and a touch of it seems to have bitten you.

So: 1.5GB/s and 3.0GB/s SATA (AKA SATA 1 and SATA 2) are electrically
identical, and you can safely use the same cables for both.  There is no
difference.

As far as I can tell generation 3 (6.0GB/s) SATA is also identical, save that
there has been a pair of small-form-factor connectors for 1.8" devices defined
between the two releases.

Unless you have those, however, it looks to be the case that you should be
fine with the same cables.  ...and, yes, wikipedia confirms my belief, so you
should be good to go.


Anyway, I don't know what the 3.5GB/s SATA cables to which you refer are, but
I am assuming above that this is a typo for 3.0GB/s.  (Plus, colour doesn't
matter; I have a bunch of black SATA cables at home, FWIW.)
