Another update - after the tests with the Turbo modem succeeded I went to the Telstra web site and found http://www.bigpond.com/internet/plans/wireless/latest-offer/ which offers the Elite modem (2x speed) without the $199 up-front payment and with 3Gb cap instead of 1Gb cap on a 2-year plan. Forgetting that it could be a different story I ordered this one and it turned that: 1. It must be activated through windows - it's a one-off thing. 2. After activation with Windows it works out of the box with Ubuntu 9.10. Just plug and play. Thanks again to everyone for your advice. --Amos -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
