I have been telling ppl hotspot shield for doze and mac simple to install and 
control (a shield in systray green working red not)
I am sure there is a way to use it on Linux ... just have to configure the 
anchor servers manually 

it's a free vpn system into the US ... the up shot you can access sites like 
HULU .. I think it's meant mainly to access open wifi access points safely
