I checked it out -- it doesn't do page combining, at least as far as I
could see.

pdfjam contains pdfnup with doesn't preserve hyperlinks in PDF files.
pdfnum isn't in the pdfjam package AFAIK --- at least, not in the
version packaged for Debian.
