I would've once agreed re Thunderbird and lists, specifically this one.
There used to be a plugin "Reply to Mailing List" which was configurable and worked great. That said, since being on T'Bird 3.1.4 (on a MAC) writing this mail, the apparently in-built reply to list functionality seems to work like a charm.
