I had to delete the graphic and reinsert it. The graphic was part of the original document but not a separate file on its own. This worked fine in Open Office but Libre Office seems to need the document to have a separate graphic file available to it. Bit of a pain but easily solved by saving the graphic as a file and cutting the original and reinserting it.
