Hi Slug, I need some help working out the bugs in my Wifi connection.
1. Please look at the output files below: This is what my connection looked like when it was working: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"zxxxxxx" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Bit Rate=48 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=70/70 Signal level=-8 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:26 Missed beacon:0 This is what I get now: starting interface: wlan0 wpa_supplicant: no process found dhclient: no process found ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client 4.2.2 Copyright 2004-2011 Internet Systems Consortium. No working leases in persistent database - sleeping. ls: cannot access /var/run/netconfig//wlan0/: No such file or directory So what sort of errors are present in this second file? How can I solve them? 2. I also think that my wpa_supplicant has failed and is not encrypting the data I am sending to my wifi router is this so? How do I fix it if my data is not encrypted? 3. I don't know if this is having any bearing on my problems at the moment but I recently upgraded my b43 wifi driver to the new Broadcom 802.11 linux 5.100.82.112. Is this causing some problems? I am sorry to have to ask so many questions. I am totally new to trying to get my wifi connection to be reliable and it is driving me nuts. Are there any Canberra people who could do a workshop or something? Do you know of some good books and trouble shooting wikis etc that is good for a newbie setting up a secure wpa connection to wifi router? Any help appreciated. Merry Christmas.
