I suggest that you install VirtualBox, then install your Centos 4 os within it.
    * You don't risk your established data etc.
* The Centos 4 will have its own IP address, your legacy system will be fine, of course it will have the security vulnerabilities that go with the old OS, but these won't infect your broader systems. * by the sound of it you won't need USB support, so the free VirtualBox ill be ok. (If you need USB you have to get the one from the Oracle website, free for individual use, modest fee otherwise.)
