Kia Ora (Greetings in Maori), Many of the community lists I am involved with have a norm of introducing oneself when joining a list so if it is not the norm on this list let me apologize in advance, but suggest that it might be a good idea ;-).
My name is Joel W Pauling, I am a IT professional and Master of Science Candidate in Psychology (yes a strange mix, I know). I come from the land of the long white cloud (otherwise known as land of sheep) New Zealand (Aotearoa to those of you who speak Maori). I arrived in Singapore on Monday for an extended stay through to October to complete my thesis, the flip side of this is I am considering migrating here for a couple of years to work. I have been heavily involved in both the New Zealand network operators group (and associated drinking/err professional events ;-) as well as the New Zealand open source society and various Computer professional societies in New Zealand. To supplement this I have also been involved internationally with a number of projects such as One Laptop per Child, Software Freedom Day and a number of OSS development projects. As a fairly avid supporter of Open Standards/Infrastructure services I am looking for like minded individuals who can help me get established here. I am hoping that I can help grow awareness for better development and professional practices in the development sector here (my experiences so far with SG companies is there is a very shallow face value approach to development and standards, at least in the web sphere) I am keen to meet up with other Linux users, (I am also looking for a part time job, while here (I can't work TOO much while here because of wanting to finish my thesis primarily). But something which can get me a work permit and flexible work times would be brilliant ;-) (Hint hint, nudge nudge ;-) Anyway I look forward to meeting some of you over the coming months. Please do not hesitate to contact me (on or off list). Kind regards JoelW Ph: +6581755877 Pimp my CV : http://www.linkedin.com/in/aenertia [EMAIL PROTECTED]
