I am sure people on this list know but I would just like to point out that 
relying on the 'UPTIME' metric is nothing more than marketing BS. Hardware 
fails, and most of the datacentres that push the 9 R slogan, really are not 
counting the numerous things that they can push off as 'user/admin' 
or 'upstream' issues. In the end you want the company which is going to be 
frank and open about issues than the one who mitigates you when things do go 
wrong.

I don't think you can ask for more than that out of a hosting company.

Of course that company should also have best practice datacentre design, 
peering and multiple upstream providers as givens. But which hosting company 
this day and age doesn't.
