After spending some hours working through a variety of quite good online explanations of how to install my d-link usb wireless thing (DWL-G122, C1) on FC6, and finding they all fail at different points for different reasons, I'm going to give up and buy a PCI wireless card at Sim Lim. Can anyone suggest a card known to work with recent releases of Fedora please? Is there a good online recipe for installation?

I'm also looking for a TV card - any suggestions for a digital+analog card that will work in Singapore? Is there a good online recipe for installation?

Regarding the linux employment question: we here at UNSW Asia, a startup university in Singapore, just hired a linux-qualified computer service officer as we have RedHat Enterprise linux on some servers, and many of our researchers will use various linux distributions. We will be hiring technical officers and CSOs again in 2007 and 2008 so keep an eye on http://www.unswasia.edu.sg

As a general point, I would say that all of the 10-15 large international universities and research labs (in the physical sciences) that I have worked with over the past 22 years have all used unix as their main research environment. Linux is now the dominant unix OS in research labs that I visit. Although many large, wonderfully robust solaris installations persist, I sold my SUNW shares quite some time ago....

I would like to pay someone (a linux guru) to help me for a few hours with my personal and research setups, as I have just migrated 6 computers from redhat 9 to FC6 and need some help with a few issues, like those above, and compiling VPN sw - please contact me on 6304 1354 during office hours if interested.
