What's so terrible about disks spinning down after inactivity? The article seems mostly like the usual Inquirer hyperbole. FWIW, the 'wake-up' fix involves enabling the 'allow_restart' flag on the device. For ubuntu kernels at least, the fix is here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=494673 After that fix, the Seagate has been humming along quite nicely on my desktop for the past several weeks. Also, I recall reading somewhere that future Linux kernels will default to enabling the restart flag for usb mounted disk drives. Which means that with a kernel in the not so distant future, the Free Agent should work out of the box.
