I can't be sure if this is correct (it was long ago for me), but when using
compiz or compiz fusion i had to use legacy workarounds for some fullscreen
apps like video playback, screensaver etc..but of course first step i can
think of is outdated drivers? i have no idea where you could find via
drivers for linux though; if it turns out that your gfx chipset is indeed
very old, you could consider upgrading to a cheap nvidia or ati card, their
drivers are the easiest to find...
