Meeting Description

Hi All,

My apologies for the late update to this month's agenda.
Am actually on travel now but hope to be back.

Part 1: Kin Chew will share with us on use of Open source in e-learning..

Title: Learning objects - creating, managing and
delivering them using Open Source Software

Summary:
My talk is about using the Python-based eXe software to create learning
objects. These learning objects
are all about "chunking" learning materials into short digestible bits
of content. Once these learning
objects have been created, they can be uploaded to a repository called
the DOOR (Digital Open Object
Repository). DOOR is a PHP-MySQL software which can be used to keep
training materials in the form of
learning objects. One advantage of DOOR is that you can tag the learning
objects using keywords. These
can help you search for learning objects that you need. DOOR can also be
integrated with Moodle (also
based on PHP-MySQL) which is a very popular learning management system
used throughout the world.

Part 2: Linux and Open Source Public event (Software Freedom Day)
A few of members have actually approached us on initiating a linux and
open source (apps) public event this year. So out thoughts is to round
up the various groups and collaborate on a public event to promote
awareness of Linux and Open Source.. hopefully at some kickass public event.

We hope to solicit your ideas and possibly enlist volunteers to help put
this event together. I took a quick check and Software Freedom Day may
be appropriate as it is a global simulatanous event.

So.. that's all and hope to see you all there.

From,
