Have you even tried one of them yet? http://ishouldbecoding.com/tag/linux - this one seems to mention _nothing_ about Kubuntu _not_ working with that controller. FYI, 82801 is pretty standard. Furthermore, Intel hardware is pretty standard; Linux-friendly.
If Windows needs a driver, it doesn't mean Linux would too. Such support is built into kernel modules like intel_piix for ICH chipsets.
