Hi Roy, Quekky & Anton,

No luck.

I tried different versions (2.0 beta 3 and 1.97) of the Vodafone Mobile Connect (which many people seem to swear by).

Anyway, I'm coming back to good ol wvdial. Does anyone know what error code 2 mean?

"man pppd" says this -
2 An error was detected in processing the options given, such as
       two mutually exclusive options being used.

But I don't understand that.

Here's my log file -

==
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99#
CONNECT
--> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Mon Jun 30 21:37:31 2008
--> Pid of pppd: 6791
--> Disconnecting at Mon Jun 30 21:37:31 2008
--> The PPP daemon has died: pppd options error (exit code = 2)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> I guess that's it for now, exiting
--> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 2)

My wvdial.conf goes like this -

==
[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
Password = pass
Phone = *99#
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Stupid Mode = 1
Baud = 460800
Dial Command = ATDT
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
ISDN = 0
Username = user

Can someone help? I'm on Ubuntu 8.04.

Hi Roy,

Thanks alot for those quick and detailed instructions.

I guess I'll go signup today, now that I've some assurance. ;) Will
try it out and get back to you.

But, strangely, the instructions for FC3 seems more generic than does
for RHEL. Guess the same set of instructions will apply for Ubuntu too?

On F9 with patches (dunno which patch since I always update), the
network manager have a new entry "GSM modem" which auto connects. I
guess ubuntu will have the same thing

however not sure what happen to my system, most E220 doesn't work on
my system. Only 1 works. But they do work on my colleagues' F9, and I
don't have time to troubleshoot why (and too lazy since I use mobile
phone)
