If all you are going to do is to run the system for people within your
community - by some definition of community - any self signed SSL
cert would suffice.  Naturally, at some point, if the site is to server the
global internet, it would be helpful for a CA-signed cert.  So, save your
money in buying a SSL cert until you need it.
