You're right, didn't think about that...

Good idea for making sure... it doesn't work! :/

i statically set the IP, netmask and gateway (using NetworkManager applet) to 
what the router would have assigned (of course, the IP an unassigned one), and 
even though NetworkManager says "Connection Established", i couldn't even reach 
the router config page. Tried adding a route to it (i'm sure that wasn't 
necessary though) didn't help either.
