Perhaps, also..

* aaaa or other unusual records
* geographically distributed name servers
* ip anycast
* access to log files
* funky tricks to return results based on querying ip, eg.
- together with ip anycast, set up your own poor man's cdn
- even without anycast, dns can be used as a primitive load balancer or to
direct to your country-specific webservers
- obfuscation. eg, to my friends, my hostname resolves to my ip, but to
 spammers or other "bad" people, it resolves to 127.0.0.1 (or
maybe 204.11.0.166)
* special apps which you don't want to explain to your isp, eg.
- decss mirror
- dns tunnels (eg nstx)
