hmm, he starts out with: "Who says good software comes at a price?" so it's pretty clear he is talking about free food, not free speech. and then he follows with listing "shareware, freeware and open source software". so he doesn't list "free (speech) software". "two main groups of free software" means free food software, since he mentioned price earlier. open source is then labeled as a third group, seemingly seperating it from free food software. he labels gimp and openoffice as "free open source software" and differentiates it from freeware google docs. then he focuses on the bad sides of freeware, talking about things that we would not want to be attributed to free speech software anyways. in the applications list there are no labels for what type of license that is, except for vlc and audacity identified as open source. it is sad that the focus is on price but even if he does not take the step to explain what free speech software is, he at least does not mix up terminology. using "free software" to mean "free food software" is not wrong. i don't see a reason for outrage. greetings, martin. -- cooperative communication with sTeam - caudium, pike, roxen and unix searching contract jobs: programming, training and administration - anywhere -- pike programmer working in china community.gotpike.org foresight developer (open-steam|caudium).org foresightlinux.org unix sysadmin iaeste.at realss.com Martin Bähr http://www.iaeste.or.at/~mbaehr/ is.schon.org _______________________________________________ LUGS Mailing list - [email protected] List FAQ: http://wiki.lugs.org.sg/LugsMailingListFaq Info page: http://www.lugs.org.sg/mailman/listinfo/slugnet To unsubscribe send an empty email to: [email protected]
