        Doing that merely sets a cookie in your browser. It has no
        actual effect on the DNS lookups, and other applications will be

        My take on things is that the DNS responses are tracked and
        intercepted in line if the upstream server doesn't respond in
        time. As the first matching request with the correct sequence
        number is the one that gets used, their intercepted request to
        their search server is used instead of the NXDOMAIN.
        
        I've called and filed several complaints to their helpdesk, as
        it was breaking my applications and split-VPN behaviour. They
        claimed that no other customer has filed a similar complaint,
        and that they would look into it. I left them after two weeks
        and am with M1 ADSL, which is pretty nice, except for the
        technical support.
