Howard, the reason for the unique names is to differentiate which unique association (combo of cluster/account/user) to account for. If you had research in both chemistry and physics and the user asked for the research account there would be no way to tell if the user meant the research in chemistry or the research in physics. I hope this clears things up.

Hey all,

I am trying to setup a hierarchy within the accounting structure and have learned that I can add the same user to multiple accounts. What I do not understand and would like some help on is if all the accounts are hierarchal why do they have to be unique?

For example, my top level account is named “science” and I have created two child accounts named “chemistry” and “physics”. Within chemistry and physics there are two groups of users. One is a research group and the other is a professor group. I would like to add a “research” account and a “professor” account to both chemistry and physics but sacctmgr will not let me. I would have thought that the unique parent names would allow this.

Show me the light oh Masters of SLURM!

Thanks,
