It might be OK in the area of HPC, but only because expectations of user-friendliness are quite low. In my view we are decades beyond the point where restricting characters to those available in the 7bit ASCII set is acceptable. Just image Italian had become the dominant language in the USA instead of English - Slurm might think your name is "Gari Brovvn".
