You are being kind. Recent legislation has not only raised the
bar, it has imposed necessary restraints and safety points
for those that have this information.

In short, from the point of demarc, like your Palm Pilot, your
Compaq IQ or whatever, it must be encrypted, to the final point
of reception. Then it may be decrypted and used for the intended
purpose. Standards are in place to determine these levels, so
please go read them.

It is not the bandwidth provider's problem to provide security
for the user's network, but it does appear that existing
laws are requiring the bandwidth provider at the very least,
be able to provide a circuit that will allow the minimal amount
of encryption PTP required by law. This is meant to say, your
network will pass at least 3DES or hopefully 56DES encrypted
data end to end.

In other words, if your security does not meet HIPPA standards,
then it is very likely you will have to answer a lot of questions
when the time arrives for the medical institution to describe
"HOW" and "WHO" is providing the connections to the various
medical facilities they work with.

Beware of those that don't really know what they are talking
about: particularly a Doctor or his Secretary.

Having done this, been there and have a case of T-shirts
un-worn yet, for this type of situation to show for it,
I am just saying a person should be knowledgeable or very
cautious when making decisions that concern records
of Individual Privacy.

You might want to at least check out HIPAA - http://www.hipaa.org/

Recent legislation has raised the bar on this a bit.
