There are many ways to misconfigure a router and have it still work. Even the simple SOHO (small office home office) routers that you can buy almost anywhere. If you have a routed network then you need to read up on basic routing terms and functions. If you use a SOHO router, read through every config option and try to figure out what it does. If you don't know you can google it, email the manufacture, or post a question here (in that order for everyones sake). Good luck

You you using an AP in repeater mode or two APs (one in/one out)? repeater mode cuts the BW in half but 2 APs only add a slight time delay. Most of the delay is caused by an incorrectly config'd router. Use a good router or none at all. Just connect the two APs with a crossover.
