We have an APPO in Access Point mode on the roof of a house high on a hill here in New Mexico. Last night there was a nice electrical storm overhead. The APPO went down. Today I went up on the roof and found all lights off on the unit. Other ac powered items of ours on this roof were on. I turned off the battery backup which killed power to everything, then I turned it back on. The APPO came on! Clients could then associate and surf.

So, the question is, “What caused the APPO to turn off? If there was a power loss why did the APPO not come back on when power was restored?”

Other facts:

  • The APPO is directly grounded to the house ground using #8 copper wire.
  • The APPO is two weeks old….it has run fine for the last two weeks.
  • Using a static IP
  • There are two radios at this location. The other radio is an APP Indoor working in Client Bridge mode as a backhaul. It stayed up.
  • All equipment including the APPO is inside a weatherproof box on the roof.

Thanks for thinking about this.
