In order for client DHCP requests to be passed through an APPO to the DHCP server, does the APPO address need to be in the same subnet as the DHCP addresses?
No.
The aPPO is a transparent bridge, forwarding traffic between the ethernet and wireless side. The aPPO doesn't care about the content of this traffic (well, unless you have configured it to only allow IP traffic through).
The IP address of the aPPO is only used for management purposes.
