On a project this scale, there will be something to do for anyone that stops by. If nothing else, we will need some 'Idiot-Proofers' LOL. Seriously though, the goal of the project is to make starting and running a small to medium WISP easy for anyone as well as making a large WISP easier to maintain.

Honestly Tom if I had any knowledge of how to do anything of use to you I would more than gladly help on this project. It is something that is lacking in my opinion. I see alot of packages out there but they are either way to much money or WAY to complicated to use. Most of the time I try to do something for about a week and then end up paying someone else to do it that knows how...lol But good luck on it anyway. All you guru's jump in here and help Tom :)

Don't hold your breath Jerry, I have a feeling the 'End Result' is a long way off but hopefully we will put out usefull sub modules an a regular basis.

Subject: [smartBridges] WISP Management and Support Suite

I have started a new project at sourceforge.net called WISP-MSS located here:

Everyone, please visit the forums and post any wish lists. This is an open source project that will be available to everyone for free. The more ideas that we get, the better the suite will be. If anyone is interested in contributing to documentation, scripting, user interface, technical advice, visual appearance or to submit any custom scripts that you have already created and would like to share please contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] so I can add you to the developer group.

Current ideas for WISP-MSS:
SNMP management of network (similar to simpleNMS but with more features for SB tweaking and other mfg device support)
Network event management (IE. Email soandso about action A, send reset command if action B, poll for events and traps, etc...)
Bandwidth management
Customer tracking
Accounting
Billing
Inventory tracking (deployed and stock)
Network mapping and visualization
Network simulating
Coverage mapping
Client help desk and support center
Knowledge base
Client forums and mailing lists
Network service management (DNS, DHCP, NNTP, SMTP, Routing, etc...)
Network planning services

Design concept:
Suite will be configured to run from a central location ran by third party for most functions, eliminating the need to indepth knowledge of services required. Company and customer private information will reside on your own network and used by web based scripts running on you own machines so no private information ever leaves your control. Network monitoring and control is cordinated by third party servers using monitoring software run on your network. Monitoring software uses self-contained 'Watchdogs' to maintain management when off network methods are unavailable. The 'Third Party' could be a distributed service ran on all of the Suite's user's computers to keep availability high and computer time free as well as having multiple routes to check for system integrity.
