Umm I don't like the router in the middle for one reason can inhibit free roaming from sid to sid at different repeaters we had problems with this in the past. As a note for what he wanted he would have to use a backhaul and an AP

Repeater mode is an extension only for last mile (for use with omni's or for cross coverage (90deg sec pointing towards another 90 sect)

How about something in the middle, like a switch?  Can do allot with a
switch that you mention.
