Mostiure in a connector is usually from condensation not just rain. This is also why you will see the connector on the radio give you more problems than a connector in line. The temp of the radio keeps the connector warm and water will condense on it. A good example of why a poor water proofing job is worse than none at all, because a poor job will let water condense but will not let it back out.
