Title: Message
This is exactly what I am doing at one client site (except using aP Totals on the client end). It works great.

It took me about 2 days to figure out that my access point at the client site was using the same channel as my "backhaul" - stupid stupid stupid. Don't make the same mistake!

By the way - my feelings on mesh - it's only as good as the weakest link - 'nuff said.

Subject: RE: [smartBridges] Wireless repeater mode

IN repeater mode, access point has the ability to provide a wireless upstream link into the wired network rather than the normal wired link. Additionally, the repeater access point is communicating with the clients as well as the upstream access point over the wireless link. It is also typical for the wired Ethernet port to be disabled while in repeater mode. Hence you are not able to pass traffic in the repeater mode through the Ethernet port. An aPPO in repeater mode can talk to another APPO in repeater mode at the same times as ABO's. But the performance will not that great. Each AP in repeater mode will reduce the effective throughput since it needs to get the signal from the main AP and then repeat the signal to the wireless client.

So if you want wired connectivity at the repeater site, then you need to have another aPPO. So instead of one unit in repeater mode, you have one unit in Client Bridge mode associating to main AP and another in AP mode to serve wireless client. Eg.

Main aPPO(AP)--wireless---aPPO(CB)---wired--aPPO(AP)---wireless clients

Why wont it pass traffic I was thinking of trying a unit in repeater mode

with a 360* sector omni and then give that customer free access. Your saying

that the LAN port will not pass traffic so I would have to add another radio

to this clients house? If I wanted to do that then I might as well use two

APPO's one for backhaul and one for AP. Is there a reason not to let the LAN

get traffic from other access points instead of being just for management?

This makes no sense help me see the Big picture HEHE.

I was toying around with the idea of  using this repeater set up with a few

customers spread out in a MESH type setup? would this work if not why? and

if so why and would there be any drawbacks?? I guess what I am asking could

an APPO in wireless repeater mode talk to multiple other AP or another APPO

in repeater mode at the same times as ABO's???

Thanks

It is correct that aPPO in Repeater Mode, the Ethernet will not pass

traffic, it is only meant for management purpose.

Garry, please draw a simple diagram with IP address and tell us which

device is pingable from PC to be clear.

I think I once heard Smart Bridges say that you can't connect to the

Ethernet port, except for management, when the unit is being used in

Repeater mode.  I may be wrong though so get a second opinion.
